⚠️
Warning!
- Component 1 and Component 2 are structured slightly differently — if you understand the structure of each you can be strategic about when to read Text 1 and Text 2 in the Insert.
- Don't read Text 2 before you need to!

‼️
Instructions
- Both Component 1 and Component 2 will have instructions printed on the first page, which you should read and follow.
- In both cases, however, you should:
- Carefully read the question paper in it's entirety. The Reading and Writing sections will be thematically linked and it's good to get a sense of what this theme is before you start.
- At this point, it’s a good idea to use a ruler to mark off the sections of Text 1 and Text 2 you are instructed to refer to for each question.
- Carefully read Text 1 in the Insert.
- If you are sitting Component 1, answer every part of Question 1, then read Text 2 and proceed with the remainder of the exam.
- If you are sitting Component 2, answer every part of Question 1 and Question 2, then read Text 2 and proceed with the remainder of the exam.
- Answer the four questions in the Reading section in the order they are set. Use the number of marks available to guide your response. Stick very closely to the timings given on this website.
- Answer one question in the Writing section. Write at length and paragraph your work clearly. Leave time to proof-read and correct your work at the end.

Running Out Of Time
- Try not to let it happen, but if you find yourself running out of time for the high mark questions in the Reading section, consider stealing a little bit of time from the Writing section.
- It's not an ideal scenario, but spending a little bit longer on the Reading could gain you more marks than you might lose on the Writing section...
