Course
- You are studying the Eduqas GCSE English Literature specification.
- This page gives an overview of the English Literature qualification, but you will also study English Language.
- You will sit two exams (Component 1 and Component 2).
- Component 1 — Shakespeare And Poetry — is 120 minutes in length and is worth 40% of your English Literature GCSE.
- Component 2 — Post-1914 Prose/Drama, 19th Century Prose, And Unseen Poetry — is 150 minutes in length and is worth 60% of your English Literature GCSE.
- Both exams assess your knowledge of the literary texts you will study throughout the course:
- Component 2 will also assess your ability to write about literary texts you have not encountered before:

Assessment Objectives
- Your success will be measured against 4 Assessment Objectives:
- AO1 — Read, understand and respond to texts. Students should be able to:
- Maintain a critical style and develop an informed personal response.
- Use textual references, including quotations, to support and illustrate interpretations.
- AO2 — Analyse the language, form and structure used by a writer to create meanings and effects, using relevant subject terminology where appropriate.
- AO3 — Show understanding of the relationships between texts and the contexts in which they were written.
- AO4 — Use a range of vocabulary and sentence structures for clarity, purpose and effect, with accurate spelling and punctuation.
