How To Revise

  1. Be realistic. There is a limit to how much you can remember. Be selective.
  2. Read through your summaries of each part of the play and make a chronological list of significant moments, events, or encounters involving Beatrice.
  3. Review the tables of quotations below. Make your own shorter list of quotations that exemplify the character arc you have just described. Make sure you draw inspiration from both the Said By Beatrice and Pertaining To Beatrice sections.
  4. Make sure you can answer all the questions in the Check Your Knowledge section. Make a list of additional quotations that would make your answers convincing.
  5. Create a “character arc” infographic or mind-map, similar to the examples at the bottom of this page. Augment each quotation with two or three adjectives that you could use when writing an essay. </aside>

  3. In your own words, describe Beatrice’s attitude men, love and marriage in Acts 1 and 2 of the play.
  4. In your own words, describe Beatrice’s “gulling scene” (Act 3; Scene 1) and what an audience might infer from this.
  5. In your own words, describe how Beatrice responds to Hero’s “shaming” and what this signals to the audience.
  6. In your own words, describe how Beatrice’s relationship with Benedick progresses after the “gulling” scenes, what her final outcome is, and how an audience might react to this journey. </aside>
