About
- The Spoken Language Endorsement is a mandatory part of the GCSE English Language qualification.
- You will either choose or be assigned a suitable research topic.
- You should research your topic thoroughly, using more than one source, then write and rehearse a formal four-minute speech.
- The speech will be delivered from the front of the classroom, with other members of the class as your audience.
- You will answer two or three audience questions after you have finished presenting.
- Your speech will be filmed and may be submitted to the exam board.
- The mark awarded (fail/pass/merit/distinction) will be reported on your GCSE English Language certificate.

Guidelines
-
Choose an interesting topic! Your speech will be more engaging if you are interested in the topic you are speaking about!
-
Write your speech carefully. Think about how it will sound when spoken aloud. Make sure it has a logical and effective structure.
-
Ensure everything is written in your own words. Plagiarism will result in disqualification. Do not rely on AI tools in any way.

-
Rehearse. Then rehearse again. Then do it again. Multiply by 100.
-
Try to avoid reliance on cue-cards. But if you must have a cue-card:

- One A6 sheet (half of A5).
- One side only.
- Single words or phrases. No full sentences.
- Submit following performance.
-
Speak clearly, in Standard English.
-
Maintain eye-contact with your audience.
-
Don’t fidget.
-
Dress properly and don’t put your hands in your pockets.
