How To Revise

  1. Be realistic. There is a limit to how much you can remember. Be selective.
  2. Read through your summaries of each part of the play and make a chronological list of significant moments, events, or encounters involving Dr Henry Jekyll.
  3. Review the tables of quotations below. Make your own shorter list of quotations that exemplify the character arc you have just described. Make sure you draw inspiration from all the relevant chapters.
  4. Make sure you can answer all the questions in the Check Your Knowledge section. Make a list of additional quotations that would make your answers convincing.
  5. Create a “character arc” infographic or mind-map, similar to the examples at the bottom of this page. Augment each quotation with two or three adjectives that you could use when writing an essay. </aside>

Check Your Knowledge

  1. In your own words, describe Mr Utterson’s first interaction with Dr Jekyll.
  2. In your own words, describe Mr Utterson’s subsequent key encounters with Dr Jekyll.
  3. In your own words, describe the alarming changes Mr Utterson observes in Dr Jekyll as the novella progresses.
  4. If you were answering the above questions in an essay format but could only include five quotations, what would they be?
  5. In your own words, describe how Dr Jekyll explains his actions in his final account. What three key quotations would you choose from this chapter?
  6. Knowing that making reference to context is a key requirement of this component, identify two opportunities to do so. </aside>
